Most of my responsibilities were in support of the 14 hydropower plants in the Alabama Power Company fleet. I performed a number of duties including water quality data analysis, design of aeration systems, hydrologic modeling, reservoir routing, reservoir level monitoring, and other site-specific projects at the hydropower plants. There were also a number of special assignments where I helped troubleshoot or assist with problems at one or more of the hydropower plants.This very rewarding and exciting work took me to USGS offices in Louisville, KY, Montgomery, AL, and Lakewood, CO; however, the locations of projects were often scattered throughout the US. Most of my work focused on rainfall-runoff modeling and statistical analysis. I performed Java programming for building a graphical user interface for the TOPMODEL watershed model used in projects in Kentucky, Alabama, and South Carolina. I served as part of a team that modeled anthropogenic influences on streamflow and biota on the Flint River in Georgia as part of a national pilot program. The last project that I worked on was located on Fountain Creek between Pueblo and Colorado Springs, CO. We adapted existing watershed and hydraulic models to study how streamflows and sedimentation would be affected by different schemes of hydraulic alteration. My expertise in modeling, statistical analysis, streamflow measurement, bathymetric survey, and project management was richly influenced by my work experience at the USGS. Southern
